This episode was a great example of what I like best about how this show has evolved. The point of Psych has never been the crimes (which are rarely scintillating); the point is the relationship between the two main characters. Perhaps it was just a very lucky accident of casting, but James Roday and Dule Hill have amazing comedic chemistry, and as they show's gone on, that chemistry has just gotten better. I think the writers and directors have gotten more comfortable letting actors just be loose and riff with each other. The aura of improv around Psych has grown and with it have the absurd and hilarious moments. Black and Tan was an episode where it felt like they were really cracking each other up. I also liked how it played with the expectations we have for the characters. I was a nice change to see Shawn in a situation where he didn't feel cool and confident and where Gus, for once, did.
